Cawthorne School Meals
At Cawthorne, we have the highest number of children selecting a school meal in the Authority. This is a testament to the hard work and effort of Mrs Fenney and Mrs Bailey in our school kitchen. School Meals are free for our EYFS, Year 1 and Year 2 children. Year 3 children upward have to pay a per meal cost however, this is kept as low as possible.
We ensure that:
- All our menus conform to the School Food Standards that became law in January 2015
- Meals are freshly prepared in the school kitchen each morning
- Most of our produce is sourced locally; all our meat is UK reared and Red Tractor accredited
- All our recipes are low in salt, sugar and fat
- Menus include daily servings of vegetables, salad and fresh fruit
- Meals are designed to provide healthy well-balanced, enjoyable menus that support children's physical and mental wellbeing
- Menus cater for all tastes and needs and include daily servings of vegetables, salad and fresh fruit, as well as a daily vegetarian option
- Our gravy is suitable for vegetarian and vegan diets and is also gluten free
Special diets/allergens
We are really strict about the ingredients that go into our meals and can provide allergen information for all our food, in compliance with the Consumers Regulation 2014.
We have vast experience in working with hospital dietitians to provide suitable meals for children with confirmed medical conditions that require them to follow a special diet. In these cases, we offer parents reassurance by meeting with them, their child, a dietitian and a member of school staff to co-ordinate a suitable menu plan.
Meal Choice And Menus
Ordering a school meal is quick and easy. Parents and children are able to use the school app to select meal choices at home if they so wish. Children also have the flexibility to select their own meal in school at the start of the day. There is always choice between a hot meal, a vegetarian option and a jacket potato with delicious fillings and accompaniments. In addition to this, there are always several desert options for children to choose from including fresh fruit and baked items. Fresh water is also available at our lunch tables for children to keep hydrated.
Packed Lunch From Home
Children are able to bring a packed lunch from home if they do not wish to have a hot meal from the school kitchen. We just ask that all packed lunches are NUT FREE due to allergies in school. This selection can be chosen at the start of the day so that the kitchen staff are aware of numbers. If your child wishes to return or try school meals, we ask for a two week notification so that sufficient stock can be ordered and delivered.
