Cawthorne Church Of England (VC) Primary School

Our Cawthorne Safeguarding Policy

Cawthorne Safeguarding Policy 2024

The purpose of our safeguarding policy is to ensure every child who is a registered pupil is safe and protected from harm.   Our policy will give clear direction to all staff (including governors, volunteers, supply teachers and agency staff), visitors and parents about expected behaviour and our legal responsibility to safeguard and promote the welfare of all children at our school.  The core elements of our policy are prevention, protection and support.

We will also:

  • Ensure that all members of our school community are aware of their responsibilities in relation to safeguarding and child protection
  • Identify a Designated Safeguarding Lead and Deputy and share their role in school
  • Know the procedures that should be followed if there is a cause for concern
  • Know where to go to find additional information regarding safeguarding and child protection
  • Be aware of the key indicators relating to child abuse, child criminal exploitation, child sexual exploitation, extremism and radicalisation
  • Fully support our school’s commitment to safeguarding and child protection

Cawthorne CE (VC) Primary School’s Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy should also be read in conjunction with: Working Together to Safeguard Children (updated December 2023) and Keeping Children Safe in Education (September 2024).

The role of the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) 2024

The Governing Board at Cawthorne CE (VC) Primary School will ensure an appropriate senior member of staff, from the school leadership team, is appointed to the role of designated safeguarding lead. The designated safeguarding lead will take lead responsibility for safeguarding and child protection (including online safety and understanding the filtering and monitoring systems and processes in place).

This is made explicit in the role holder’s job description outlined above.
